Friday, June 25: An Introduction to Beekeeping

An Introduction to Beekeeping with Paul and Izzy from the Black Bee Honey Company

During the day, you'll learn about what's involved in keeping your own bees with loads of fun bee facts and the chance to look into a hive and build your own honey frame. Lunch will be provided along with some delicious honeys for you to try. You'll be given some handy reference material to take home with you too which will give you some guidance on next steps if you decide to continue your beekeeping journey!

What you'll be doing and learning:

– A brief history of beekeeping
– The pros and cons of keeping bees
– What's happening inside a hive
– The beekeeping year
– Beekeeping equipment guide
– Putting on a suit and looking into a real hive!
– Learning how to build your own frames
– Honey tasting

Spaces are very limited so book early to avoid disappointment. 10 people max per workshop with two experienced instructors. Workshops run from 10.30am – 2.30pm with a break for lunch. Suits and all equipment are provided. We ask you not to wear open toed sandals or shoes and to bring a pair of socks. Beekeeping is weather dependent. If it's too cold or wet we won't be able to open the hives but don't worry there's plenty of other things we can do.

Cost: £99.50 per person

Dates: Friday 25 June / Friday 16 July / Friday 13 August / Friday 10 September
